Benjamin (Benjie) is a composer, music producer, music director, multi-instrumentalist, lyricist and writer. He has over ten years of experience professionally writing, producing and directing music for film, TV and the stage.
His musical interest started from a young age, learning both piano and violin at the age of five. Throughout primary and high school he participated in many youth music groups including BISYOC (which he recommends any young talented musician attend), NYTW as a performer-musician, as well as leading several local music groups and bands in various styles including classical, punk rock, latin, jazz and folk. By the age of seventeen he had achieved grade eight ABRSM on violin and attained the DipABRSM for piano, as well as turned his hand to many other classical, traditional and band instruments.
Although music was the obvious choice, Benjie demonstrated natural aptitude for physics and acting, and so careers in theoretical physics or drama were close contenders. After three years of work, travel and deliberation, he decided on the study of composition through technology at RWCMD, graduating in 2013 with first class honours.
Throughout university and since graduating, he has written collaboratively (principally with John Hardy Music) and individually for a wide range of projects including Hinterland, Steel Country/A Dark Place, Hidden, Pili Pala, Galesa (for which he won Welsh BAFTA's Best Original Score alongside Tic Ashfield), and many more.
Aside from music, Benjie has a keen interest in other pursuits. In his spare time he designs board games for his own board game company, writes novels and short stories in the sci-fi genre under the mentorship of a prominent sci-fi author, and helps his partner teach Lindy Hop across South Wales with her company The Swing Project.- Naomi Owen was born on 3 June 1988 in Llandrindod Wells, Wales, UK.
